Syed Shahab Qutub is an Advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan with over sixteen (16) years of dispute resolution experience acting as lead counsel in high value, complex commercial disputes, often involving cross-border issues, in the energy, banking, insurance, construction and media and telecommunications industries. He is recognized in dispute resolution by both Chambers and Partners and Legal 500, and has been described as “a highly qualified, results-oriented individual with a high level of integrity. He is quick to understand the problem and provide advice.”
Shahab is a leading power sector dispute resolution specialist having represented both state-owned enterprises and private power generation companies in expert determinations, domestic and international commercial arbitration as well as litigation before the High Courts. He has acted in disputes related to hydropower, thermal, wind and solar power projects as well as transmission line projects. He regularly appears before the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) in proceedings related to tariff and licensing and advises power generation companies on issues of regulatory compliance.
Shahab’s international arbitration focus has seen him act as counsel in disputes under the rules of ICC, LCIA, UNCITRAL and ICSID. In the last couple of years, Shahab has represented high profile clients in several significant international arbitrations related to the power and construction sectors. Recently, Shahab was the lead counsel in an ICC arbitration and was successful in securing an Award of approx. US$ 4.5 million in a power sector dispute. Shahab also has significant experience in construction disputes and is regularly engaged for complex multi-dispute construction arbitrations related to mega projects. He also represents domestic and foreign clients in proceedings before various courts related to the recognition and enforcement of both domestic and foreign arbitral awards.
Shahab has broad experience in civil and commercia litigation and routinely appears before the High Courts, the civil courts (including special courts), administrative tribunals and regulatory bodies across Pakistan and has appeared in a number of landmark cases that have become precedent relating to arbitration, electricity laws and shareholder disputes.
